Remitance to dioceses for the performance of their activities (año 2018)
Every year, once the tax allocation has been received, the details and explanation of the items for resource and employment are submitted for greater transparency:
80% of resources coming in through the tax allocation are sent directly to the dioceses for the performance of their pastoral and care activities.
The remaining 20% of the resources is distributed according to criteria annually approved in the Plenary Assembly: social security for the clergy and bishops, projects for the refurbishment and construction of churches in the different dioceses, pastoral activities, diocesan Caritas, etc.
The distribution of the money received from the Tax Allocation is made according to an assessment of the needs of the Spanish dioceses for the performance of their pastoral and care activities.
All of them receive a fixed amount corresponding to their basic general expenses. The rest of the amount received will vary according to each diocese’s more particular needs within their liturgical, pastoral and care activities.
The specific pastoral needs of each diocese are thus assessed according to each one’s own characteristics, such as the area covered by the diocese, the number of inhabitants, number of parishes, number of priests, seminaries and vocational pastoral members, criteria which are approved annually in a plenary assembly.
This distribution model is based on solidarity and reporting of assets and the ability to attend to basic needs is given priority while especially focusing on the dioceses with fewer resources and diminished ability to obtain them.
Once the overall amount for the different items is received, each diocese integrates it into its budget for its distribution, attending to its own diocesan economic organization and the appropriate coverage of its pastoral and care activities.
